Late spring is the most common time of year for first-time laser hair removal enquiries. The question is always the same: have I left it too late for summer? Almost always, the honest answer is no — provided we start carefully and plan a sensible course.
Laser hair removal is a clinical treatment that works best when planned across a full hair cycle. At Skinox we approach it the way we approach all clinical care: a face-to-face consultation, a test patch, a written plan and a course tailored to your skin and hair.
Why now is a sensible window
laser hair removal at Skinox works most effectively when hairs are in their growth phase, which is why a course is needed rather than a single session. Starting in May still allows for three sessions before peak holiday season, which is usually enough to deliver visible reduction even if the full course extends into the autumn.
The other reason late spring is sensible is the lower base level of sun exposure on the treatment areas. Laser hair removal is not recommended on recently tanned skin because pigment in the skin competes with pigment in the hair, raising the risk of burns. We are direct with patients about this and pause treatment if there has been recent sun exposure on the area.
What a Skinox course looks like
At a first consultation we record skin type using the Fitzpatrick scale, screen for medications that can interact with laser treatment, and discuss any history of pigmentation. A test patch follows on a separate visit at least 48 hours before the first full session. From there, a typical course runs every four to six weeks for face and body, with intervals chosen to match the hair cycle of the area.
our aftercare guidance covers the first 24–48 hours after each session: avoid hot showers and saunas, use a broad-spectrum SPF on exposed areas, and pause any retinoids on the treated skin. Patients travelling between Skinox aesthetics in Coventry, Derby or Loughborough find that booking sessions tightly in late spring is easier than trying to thread them between summer holidays.
Costs, packages and finance
Course pricing is published transparently on the current Skinox price list. Bundling commonly treated areas — underarms with bikini, half-leg with bikini, full-face with neck — usually offers better value than session-by-session pricing. For larger courses, treatment finance options lets patients spread payments rather than commit a lump sum.
We do not lead with discount pricing in any advertising and we will not push a course of treatments that we do not believe is clinically appropriate. the Care Quality Commission regulates us, and we are content for that to define how the service is offered.
Safety and the people who deliver the treatment
Laser hair removal is performed by trained clinical team members at Skinox. UK Government laser-radiation safety advice sets the framework for how laser equipment is operated safely. Patients should ask, at any clinic, who is operating the device and what training they have received. We expect that question and answer it without hesitation.
Suitability and skin types
Modern devices treat a wider range of skin tones safely than the early machines did, but they are not universal. Very light hairs, white hairs and red hairs respond poorly because there is not enough pigment for the laser to target. We are clear about expected outcomes during consultation and will recommend an alternative — for example, electrolysis at a partner provider — where laser is not the right choice.
A simple late-spring plan
If you would like to be hair-free for August, a consultation in early May, a test patch within the same fortnight, and a first session at the start of the following month is the standard pattern. Two further sessions four to six weeks apart will deliver the most visible early reduction. The full course usually runs to six to eight sessions, depending on area and hair density.
Next steps
Book a 20-minute consultation at any of our clinics, including Leicester, Nottingham, Coventry, Derby, Grantham and Loughborough. We will give you a written plan, an honest expectation of results, and a course price you can compare like-for-like with any other provider.
Skin types, hair colours and realistic outcomes
Modern laser platforms support a wider range of skin tones than the early devices, but they are not universal. Patients with very dark or very tanned skin require careful settings and longer intervals between sessions. Patients with white, grey or red hair will not see the same result, because the laser targets pigment. We are direct about this at consultation and propose alternatives where laser is not the right tool.
Realistic outcomes are usually 70–90% hair reduction after a full course, with periodic maintenance sessions every 12–18 months. Permanent total removal is uncommon; very low-maintenance hair is the more honest expectation.
